I enjoyed the movie as well! I do have one criticism though. Personally, I wish it was 20 to 30 minutes longer. Some sequences needed to breathe just a little longer. But hey, I can't really complain. I'm gunna see it again.
I liked that it was tight and not overlong. Films over 2 hours have to be really good or they started to irritate me. :)
But I know what you mean ā I think Iād have opted for cutting some stuff to make it feel less overstuffed, and get the breathing space that way. I could happily have had a bit less of the dog, or shave off some of the earlier action sequences.
Overall, an excellent film. Gunn really nailed it. The Supes/Lois dynamic was spot on (love the interview scene) and Hoult is in the running for best Lex.
Some minor nits - I'd have liked a bit more Ma and Pa Kent, other than their plot function scenes (which hit correctly, but I wanted more), while one not familiar with Steve Lombard, Ron Troupe and Cat Grant's breasts might wonder why they were in the film at all. Some of the CG had that floaty disconnected feeling, but Laura pointed out those were probably intended to be from the POV of LexCorp drones.
Still, greatly enjoyed the film and looking forward to more adventures in this world.
Yeah, Superman and Lois felt just right, as if they'd been in 5 films together already. In a good way. The interview scene was when the film sucked me in. A bit like Fantastic Four, Supes has the nerve to spend some time doing non-superheroey stuff and actually establish its characters up front, and it works.
Agree that more Ma and Pa Kent would have been good, mainly because what we DID get was excellent. Given the 'sins of the parents' plotline, emphasising his 'found' parents should probably have been a bigger thread. (Though the final scene is perfect, I thought)
My only other nitpick would be that the Daily Planet staff's antics in the T ship during the finale seemed a bit irrelevant to everything else.
Heck, the first trailer got me excited for Krypto.
The second trailer - with segments of the interview - got me excited for Clark and Lois and tipped me over into "Yeah, I'm seeing this."
Yes, the final scene was perfect.
I suspect there's more Daily Planet team stuff which was cut. Although props given for them holding in the building for a long time putting together their story.
I love the overall restraint in terms of cutting an efficient story demonstrated by both Superman and Fantastic Four. Sure, they could probably have both been 30 minutes longer and still been good, and had more room for lore and fan service, but having two great action/comic book/scifi films that clock in under 2 hours was a real pleasure.
There's a precision to both of them that feels quite old fashioned.
Fantastic Four is on the list for next week. Initially we'd semi-planned to do both movies on the same day, with dinner between, but the show times didn't work out for us.
This is where I note by moving to Achill Island a cinema is now a two hour round trip drive, thus a movie night becomes a special planned night.
When we were in Cali we were 10 minutes from a cinema and the local AMC did $5 Tues, so we used to see LOTS of movies.
When I lived in Canterbury in my teens, there was a fairly rubbish cinema about 15 mins walk down the road. Even so, weād instead often drive 45 minutes to Ashford to the fancy multiplex which had far superior tech and screens.

True! Good points!
Looking forward to it.
Damn, you write fast, Simon! I hate you! :D Great review. So glad you enjoyed it.
I am looking forward to seeing the movie.

A good movie is worth the journey!
You can never keep a good hero down.
